Style Rut

It has been snowy and cold where i am. This has lead me into a style rut. Almost everyday I wear a turtleneck, sweater, headband and leggings. It is a comfy get up but i fear that i am becoming boring in my apparel choices. I usually like to showcase dresses on my shape.

But for some reason every morning i turn to my trusty turtleneck.  Perhaps once the sun is shining again i will feel compelled to dress to impress. At the moment, i am rather content wearing my winter uniform.

I am part of the multi-blogger site Gumshoe Blog. I did a post today about slang terms i wish would make a come back…so i am personally absorbing them into my vocabulary. At the moment I big on using the term ‘Date Bait’ and ‘Swell’.

Also, if you are a blogger and are interested in contributing a post to Gumshoe you should check out the about page and email!

Llama Sweater!

I was lucky to be on Twitter when Small Earth Vintage posted a photo for the sweater she had just listed in her Etsy shop. As soon as i clicked, and the photo unveiled itself for me, i knew i had to have the sweater. i visited the Small Earth Vintage etsy shop and into the shopping cart this beauty went.

At the end of last week my Llama sweater arrived in the mail. She is even more fun in person than she is on a computer screen. I love the purple, the collar, and the feminine cut to the sweater.

Here is a close up look at the llamas. The sweater is vintage – from the 70s. The llama sweater arrived in the mail at the perfect time due to the temperature turning to a bitter cold where i am.

i love you llama sweater!

I decided to wear my sweater over the weekend to help combat the cold. It worked. Did I mention how much i love the collar?! I just feel so much more sophisticated with a popped sweater collar than, say, a sweatshirt.

February is for Friendship!

I love Valentines Day! Not because it is about romantic love but because i see it as a celebration of love in general. It is a great time of the year to send a cute little valentine to all your friends to tell them how much you love them. Because of this i decided to make a desktop calendar for February that features two Classic Hollywood friends and thought i would share it with you!

Fun with Hair!

The day after the pin curls

The day after the pin curls

I have been having fun experimenting with pin curls. This is the first step in my goal to take inspiration off my pinterest board and putting it into my life. The thing with my pin curls is that i do not put much product in my hair for them. Due to this lack of product the next day my hair just tends to look fluffy with a slight curl. I don’t necessarily want to brush all the curl out. I like the fluffy feel and i appreciate the nice bang that the pin curls can create. As the day wears on, it is obvious that my hair looks sloppy and i need to create a new look with the leftover curl from the pin curls.  I decide to attempt a romantic updo.

I simply pull my hair back in a loose bun allowing a curl to fall by my face. I fluff out a curl in my bangs to add a bit of a frame to my face. This is what the end result looked like. I will admit that i felt the updo had a nice sophisticated look to it. It was an easy style to wear throughout the day and felt the hair compelled me to wear red lipstick throughout the entire day.

One of my Men

Yesterday would have been Cary Grant’s birthday if he were still alive. Feeling sentimental, I posted a little note to Mr.Grant on Facebook. It is one of the most popular updates i have ever done! I am guessing it because a lot of people feel the same way i do.  Below is my short note.

1. SwanneeGrace Folklore coat! The use of colour brightens up this long black coat. I also appreciate the big hood. When it is cold out, you want a hood to help keep you warm.

2. Dear Golden  Dear Golden has some amazing coats in their shop at the moment. I love love love the scarf like collar. Once again, a gorgeous colour that you do not see enough of in winter outerwear.

3. FemaleHysteria  I adore the way the fur along the collar of this coat looks as though it is a scarf that then gets tucked inside the coat. ANother great silhouette to wear with dresses.

4. allencompany If i lived somewhere where the temperature does not drop to below freezing i would get this delightful coat. It is impossible to fall for the charms of the string with pom poms collar.

Learning to Love Your New Hair

Going from long (way past your shoulders) to mid-short (chin length) hair is invigorating! Suddenly there seems to be so many options for how to style your hair without it taking mucho product and time. But, there is also that stage when you awake, look at yourself in the mirror and perhaps forgot you cut off most of your hair.

surprise! Haircut!

Surpise! Half of the length of your hair is missing. Where did it go? Did hair bandits steal it in your sleep?! Then your brain awakens and you remember that fateful day you voluntarily cut your hair. But Wait! You no longer can do your go to hairstyle – the messy high bun. Sacre bleu! You now have no go to look.

You wash your hair and let it air dry. You are far to tired to bother with drying it or styling it or productorizing it today. You then look at your new haircut again – without being styled and with your hairs normal texture – you realize again that you made the right decision to change your hair. No more lusting after those cute haircuts on pinterest – you know have a cute haircut of your own. Huzzah!
